I have been an advocate for elderly financial abuse for 6 years. I lost my Aunt July 9th 2010. Now the real work begins. Making elder abuse awareness viable to the police…the banking institutions and family. No one seems to want to hear it, SO I’LL SAY IT LOUD AND CLEAR…ELDER FINANCIAL ABUSE IS A CRIME…BOTH FINANCIALLY AND EMOTIONALLY…my aunt was in this nightmare…while alive, dying, her children took every penny until the day before she passed. This crime was committed under Power Of Attorney. The son broke every moral rule, there is. The bank did nothing to stop him, even when my aunt asked them to do so. It is a cruel and dis-respectful action against a dying mother. The culprits, including the bank personnel who allowed this to happen.

Do a lot of perpetrators take Life Insurance Policys out on their victims and is there any law protecing them from it?

There is no elder justice if you work for a non profit church. You are fired, your insurance is terminated (even if you’re a cancer patient), you are not allowed to see your retirement statement…..and you’re not protected by the Dept. of Labor, Dept. of Insurance. You’re on your own. Get the word out. Even the church run schools don’t have to abide my state standards. No one is safe. They even cover up child abuse!

What can happen now? it seems everyone I talk to in agencys are unaware of The Elder Justice Act and that it was passed into Law March 2010. I would like to continue with my efforts to help bring justice for my father.. and help to bring awareness of elder abuse to the front. It is still very silent no one seems to be interested? I have all the paper trail but because attorneys were involved in and part of the financial exploitation, I am having a problem with my issues in this Elder Abuse case. Any suggestions, please let me know. Help! and thanks.

As a social worker I have seen the enormous problem of elder abuse, in my many years of practice both in NY and Los Angeles.

Please enact the Elder Justice Act.
